Victorian Valentine: Cherubs & Girl with Hearts

There's a distinctly uncomfortable energy to this card's romantic gesture: two naked cherubs have apparently gone into the heart-delivery business, one hovering airborne clutching a single red heart like it's auditioning for a Renaissance fresco, while his entrepreneurial colleague presents a whole golden tray piled with red hearts to a small girl who looks deeply, relatably unimpressed by the entire operation. The girl—bow in hair, hands clasped at her chin in the universal gesture of 'I did not ask for this'—stares off into the middle distance as if reconsidering all her life choices, which, fair. The script reads 'From a true heart,' which is doing a lot of emotional heavy lifting when your messengers are two semi-nude toddlers aggressively bulk-gifting cardiac imagery in a suspiciously lush garden. Victorian romance, everybody: outsource your feelings to winged babies and hope she doesn't notice.
