Vintage Thanksgiving Greeting Card with Turkey & Woman

The proportions here are wildly unbalanced—a Pilgrim woman barely takes up one arm of a giant wishbone while a fully fanned tom turkey looms on the opposite end like a landlord who knows you can't make rent, with the woman's hands clasped in what can only be described as desperate prayer. The wishbone — that great symbol of broken dreams and competitive family dynamics — serves as their shared seating arrangement, which is either deeply metaphorical or the most unsubtle 'you're about to get eaten' visual threat in postcard history. John Winsch copyrighted this masterpiece in 1913, presumably right after asking himself 'but what if Thanksgiving, but make it ominous?' The ornate lace border corners are doing absolutely heroic work trying to class up what is essentially a hostage situation rendered in muted earth tones.
