Vintage 1912 Santa Christmas Greeting Card with Holly & Children

Santa's proportions are wrong — his head is impossibly small relative to his rotund body — and he's rocking a dark hat, fur-trimmed red coat, and the beard of a man who has Seen Things while gripping what appears to be a toy rabbit and dangling a doll in front of two rosy-cheeked girls whose expressions land somewhere between 'Christmas morning delight' and 'please just give us the doll and no one gets hurt.' A third cherubic face floats ghostlike in the background at an unsettling scale, because apparently two children weren't unsettling enough and someone at Heymann's 1912 design studio said 'you know what this needs? A disembodied head.' The whole scene is framed in a gold-rimmed circle surrounded by aggressively festive holly, as if the holly itself is trying to contain whatever is happening here, and the snow-frosted 'Christmas Greetings' banner at the bottom is doing its absolute best to convince you this is wholesome.
