Like a modern home-alone thriller but with better production values, this scene features a barefoot blonde child in a white nightgown clutching a small doll and what appears to be a toy squirrel in one arm while holding a lit candle in a brass candleholder — an unsupervised minor navigating a dark staircase with an open flame being the obviously ideal choice for a 'festive holiday card.' Meanwhile, Santa looms outside the window in full red suit, white beard at maximum creep, watching her every move like he's conducting a covert reconnaissance mission rather than, you know, just delivering gifts. The holly decorations and cheerful 'Christmas Greetings' script at the bottom are doing absolutely heroic work trying to offset the unmistakable energy of a Victorian-era horror film's opening scene.
